January 25 - Matthew 18.8-35
An Official Who Refused To Forgive
21 Peter came up to the Lord and asked, "How many times should I forgive someone who does something wrong to me? Is seven times enough?" 22 Jesus answered: Not just seven times, but seventy-seven times! 23 This story will show you what the kingdom of heaven is like: One day a king decided to call in his officials and ask them to give an account of what they owed him. 24 As he was doing this, one official was brought in who owed him fifty million silver coins. 25 But he didn't have any money to pay what he owed. The king ordered him to be sold, along with his wife and children and all he owned, in order to pay the debt.

26 The official got down on his knees and began begging, "Have pity on me, and I will pay you every cent I owe!" 27 The king felt sorry for him and let him go free. He even told the official that he did not have to pay back the money.

28 As the official was leaving, he happened to meet another official, who owed him a hundred silver coins. So he grabbed the man by the throat. He started choking him and said, "Pay me what you owe!"

29 The man got down on his knees and began begging, "Have pity on me, and I will pay you back." 30 But the first official refused to have pity. Instead, he went and had the other official put in jail until he could pay what he owed.

31 When some other officials found out what had happened, they felt sorry for the man who had been put in jail. Then they told the king what had happened. 32 The king called the first official back in and said, "You're an evil man! When you begged for mercy, I said you did not have to pay back a cent. 33 Don't you think you should show pity to someone else, as I did to you?" 34 The king was so angry that he ordered the official to be tortured until he could pay back everything he owed. 35 That is how my Father in heaven will treat you, if you don't forgive each of my followers with all your heart.

What a great story? God help me not to be like the wicked official, help me God to quickly forgive.

Matthew 13.44-14.12

A Hidden Treasure
44 The kingdom of heaven is like what happens when someone finds treasure hidden in a field and buries it again. A person like that is happy and goes and sells everything in order to buy that field.

A person like that is happ and sells everything ...

Matthew 10.24-11.6
28 Don't be afraid of people. They can kill you, but they cannot harm your soul. Instead, you should fear God who can destroy both your body and your soul in hell.

Help me God to not fear man ...

Matthew 9.35-10.23

23 When people mistreat you in one town, hurry to another one. I promise you that before you have gone to all the towns of Israel, the Son of Man will come.

This is a very interesting verse does this mean Jesus will return when the Gospel has been preached to almost all of Israel?

Matthew 9.14-34

17 No one pours new wine into old wineskins. The wine would swell and burst the old skins. Then the wine would be lost, and the skins would be ruined. New wine must be put into new wineskins. Both the skins and the wine will then be safe.

Can not teach an old dog new tricks ... need to get a new dog ... thanks God for making me a new dog.

Matthew 8.28-9.13
"13 Go and learn what the Scriptures mean when they say, Instead of offering sacrifices to me, I want you to be merciful to others.' I didn't come to invite good people to be my followers. I came to invite sinners.' "

What a great line " I did not come to invite good people " ...

Matthew 5.13-37

Anger
21 You know that our ancestors were told, "Do not murder" and "A murderer must be brought to trial." 22 But I promise you that if you are angry with someone, you will have to stand trial. If you call someone a fool, you will be taken to court. And if you say that someone is worthless, you will be in danger of the fires of hell.

And if you say that someone is worthless

Blessings
Jesus' disciples gathered around him, 2 and he taught them:
3 God blesses those people who depend only on him. They belong to the kingdom of heaven!
.
.
.
6 God blesses those people who want to obey him more than to eat or drink. They will be given what they want!
7 God blesses those people who are merciful. They will be treated with mercy!
8 God blesses those people whose hearts are pure. They will see him!
9 God blesses those people who make peace. They will be called his children!
10 God blesses those people who are treated badly for doing right. They belong to the kingdom of heaven.
11 God will bless you when people insult you, mistreat you, and tell all kinds of evil lies about you because of me.
12 Be happy and excited! You will have a great reward in heaven. People did these same things to the prophets who lived long ago.

Do I depend onyly on him?
Do I want to obey him more than want to eat and drink?
Am I merciful?
Is my heart pure?
Do I make peace?
Do I get insulted for doing right?

Matthew 3.1-4.11

I thought about a few things from this passage ...

13 Jesus left Galilee and went to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. 14 But John kept objecting and said, "I ought to be baptized by you. Why have you come to me?"

15 Jesus answered, "For now this is how it should be, because we must do all that God wants us to do." Then John agreed.

John truely understood who Jesus was ... John kept objecting ... I like how that is worded ... arguing with God .... until Jesus convinces him that is the way God wants it ...

The next thought ...

4 Jesus answered, "The Scriptures say: No one can live only on food. People need every word that God has spoken.'"
People need every word that God has spoken ... maybe that is why so many people are dying ...
